Our mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was moved to her home town into the paliative care room at Warren district hospital. I was 34 weeks into my high risk pregnancy and it was a really stressful and tough time for our family. The doctors and nurses were so supportive and caring. They made mum feel so looked after and cared for in her final days. We spent full days and nights with her while she was in hospital and the staff made sure we ate and slept comfortably. The midwife team were super supportive of my pregnancy, doing checkups and monitoring the baby while I was at the hospital so I didn’t have to leave my mum.
The last memory I have with mum is one of the nurses (Sharon) letting mum listen to our baby’s heartbeat. Mum passed later that night and I will forever be grateful that I have that memory and that we were lucky enough to have some amazing nurses look after us all.
