"Rolled ankle"

About: Moora Health Service / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My adult child rolled their ankle recently and it was immediately painful with pain also going up the outside of their leg. After icing and treatment at home the pain was increasing so they went to the emergency department to be told you are walking on it so it’s not broken. Then my child was told to sit and wait for a doctor to see them – it seemed there was no one in the emergency department yet an hour and a half later still no doctor and my child saw no staff on that time at all. I believe they wouldn’t even know if my child was ok. My child tried to find someone but there was no one around so they left.

Unbelievably terrible service from a hospital that I feel very rarely provides a good service. My child is now left in a lot of pain with children to care for one a baby. Should there be a fracture regardless if they are walking on it then, in my opinion, Moora Hospital have a lot to answer for.

Dear angrybird70,

I was very sorry and concerned to read about your family member’s experience at Moora Hospital.

I apologise for the delay in the care and treatment they received. I would encourage them to return to Moora Hospital or see their GP if there are ongoing issues.

We have a service called Aishwarya’s Care Call where if a patient or family member is concerned with the treatment provided, they can contact a senior staff member who will listen to their concerns and advocate on their behalf to the health service. The phone number for this 24/7 service is 1800 994 063.

Your feedback is very important to help us improve our health services. I would be grateful if you or your family member would call me on (08) 690 1315 so I can have an opportunity to further investigate what happened on this day.

Best wishes

Trenton
