"Head trauma presentation"

About: Armadale Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I attended the Emergency Department at Armadale Hospital recently after significant trauma to the side of my face/ head, multiple bleeding wounds, concussed and in and out of consciousness, major inflammation/ swelling and bruising, showing signs of shock on arrival.

I was wheelchair in to the waiting room by a nurse who had assisted to get me from a friend’s vehicle who had transported me there. (An ambulance had been called at the location of the incident, though at the time, it was decided that a private vehicle transfer would be quicker.)

I managed to ask for a towel or something suitable to cover and control my bleeding wounds and was given 2 tissues by the accompanying nurse who I managed to look at and refused stating that they would not suffice and would only complicate the cleaning and dressing of the wounds. I was left and given nothing to dress my wounds.

Within a few minutes I was asked to present to the triage nurse, whom at no stage left their seat behind the glass partition. I was asked for the usual details which I managed to recite and was told that I could wait to be called. When asked how long that wait was likely to be, the response was at least 2 hours. I was horrified. I left, was transported to another hospital. Admitted instantly and treated on the spot.

After having a CT scan (I have a picture I can attach) my condition was confirmed and indeed was extremely serious.

At no time did the Triage or ED Team at Armadale consider taking any vitals, administering pain relief or attending/checking my major lacerations.

I feel there was absolute neglect and, in my opinion, the establishment lacks empathy, common decency and I believe also fails in every attempt to uphold their values or oath taken.
