"Excellent care received by the Staff"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / General Surgery Department & Ward 7A & Ward 7B

(as the patient),

I was unfortunate enough to be unwell over the recent holiday period and was transferred from a regional WA hospital on a public holiday and ended up having emergency surgery in FSH the following day and spent 10 days in hospital after the surgery.

I felt the Majority of the staff I saw provided excellent care, I found that the nursing team was staffed by some very experienced and competent nurses who where helpful and pleasant even when working long shifts.

I was on ward 7A for most of the stay.

The physio (sorry can't remember your name T?) who set me up with a walking trolley on day one that enabled me to be as independent, as my condition allowed, and I was able to walk around the ward each day which aided my recovery.

I would like to especially mention the Medical team Lauren, Michelle and Jarrad, who cared for me while I was an inpatient, they were compassionate and open about my health issues and saw me regularly even though it was a "holiday" time of the year.

Thank you to Lauren, Michelle and Jarrad for your excellent care not only during the surgery but the after care.

It has been a long journey and I am finally recovering thank you to the Fiona Stanley team.

The one issue I had for the admission was not being able to access icy poles/hydralyte type during the admission, this option was not available and I was unable to bring in any of my own food as there was not an option for safe storage of patient food- I felt that in this day and age of differing dietary needs this is disappointing.

Dear leopardgx34

I am sorry to read that you were recently very unwell, I am sure it would have been a scary experience for you and your family. I am pleased to read of the impressive care you received from our staff. I appreciate you taking the time to let us know of your experience; it confirms that we have a great team of clinicians and support workers in Fiona Stanley Hospital.

Please be assured that I will share your feedback with the wards and the named staff members along with my added note of thanks.

In regard to accessing icy poles, the hospital does not provide these due to their limited nutritional content. However, I have been assured that it is possible for you or your family to bring food into hospital should you wish to. It is unfortunate that there appears to have been no option for safe storage of patient food during your admission, and I apologise for that.

Should a patient require hydrolytes / electrolytes as part of their treatment, these are provided via alternate means such as an intravenous drip.

I’m glad to hear that you are finally recovering from your illness.

Kind regards

Neil Doverty
