"Imaging Department appointments"

About: Geraldton Hospital / Medical Imaging

(as a service user),

Rock up for my scheduled appointment that was made weeks ago, in fact it was my 2nd attempt, only to once again be told sorry you were booked in this morning. A second "missed" appointment because apparently I don't have the right time on both occasions. Both appointments made via telephone with my doctors form faxed to the department. Easy right ....wrong. Both times I have specifically written down the time and date details and added to my calendar on my phone.

Last time I was there for a different matter I clarified all of my contact details including my mobile number and yet on checking this time my number was incorrect and I had therefore not received a confirmation SMS message. Yes they are busy but for goodness sake how hard can it be, in my opinion, to get things working effectively.

Now I have to once again wait weeks for an opening. I was initially supposed to have my treatment in mid December last year, they are telling me 3 months from now will be my next possible appointment. I have had to leave work and waste time on a uphill battle to access a decent service.

Dear patient2024

Thank you for sharing you experience on Care Opinion.

I can understand your frustration with the difficulties you have faced accessing the appointment you require and would like to offer my apologies for any human error that has contributed to this.

Where time allows the clerical team will ensure that all imaging appointments have an appointment letter dispatched, to avoid any miscommunication of dates or times. For more immediate appointments we shall continue to offer appointment cards for in person bookings, plus the reminder text message.

I would be very grateful if you can contact me so we can ensure all your contact information is correct. I can also liaise with the Medical Imaging team to enquire if there is any opportunity to have your appointment fast-tracked should there be any cancellation. My name is Didi Bower, I am the Acting Regional Manager Patient Safety and Quality. I can be contacted on 08 9956 2279 or email didi.bower@health.wa.gov.au

If at any time either you feel you are not receiving the care or treatment you need, we have a service at the hospital called Aishwarya’s CARE Call. You may notice posters about Aishwarya’s CARE Call in our Emergency Department – this is a 3-step process for patients, carers and family members to use if they are worried about the treatment provided in hospital. In the Midwest, no matter what hospital you go to this number is 1800 316 729 or you can find out more here at: WA Country Health Service - Aishwarya’s CARE Call

I do hope to hear from you soon.

Regards

Didi Bower
