For my second pregnancy/birth I was accepted into the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) at King Edward Memorial hospital. I had heard from a number of people that this program would be my best chance of having a successful VBAC and after my experience, I couldn’t agree more.
I had one midwife (Jascinta) for all of my antenatal appointments and birth. This continuity of care made a massive difference in comparison to my first birth. It meant that I felt supported, respected and listened to the entire time. Jascinta is passionate about her work and I felt she really cared about my birth preferences. Not once was I made to feel fearful of a VBAC or that it wasn’t a possibility for me. I felt it was a huge comfort to have that relationship and trust with one known midwife for the duration of my pregnancy, birth and postnatal checkups.
During the birth I had some incredible Doctors including, Doctor Catherine and Doctor Amy. They had open and honest communication with us, they were respectful, professional, supportive and caring. I can’t speak more highly of them.
I truely believe that my wishes for a VBAC was only made possible through the support of the MGP program and the incredible Doctors at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
I really hope more women have access to this model of care in future!
