"Waiting for cataract eye surgery"

About: Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital / Eye Clinic

(as the patient),

Ive been waiting for cataract eye surgery for two and a half years approx. I have contacted the eye clinic on numerous occasions and have been told my name is not coming up in the near future. Meanwhile my right eye is half closed from the cataract impairing my vision. I am a pensioner, and if I could afford it I would get it done tomorrow. I can put about $1500.00 towards the ops but thats it. I need both eyes done. I recall the normal waiting time was told to be around 18 months by the health minister, but this makes me think how out of touch is he???

Dear redrd34,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and experience regarding your wait for cataract eye surgery.

I am deeply sorry to hear about your prolonged wait for cataract eye surgery. The extended wait you've endured, with your vision impaired and your right eye affected, is undoubtedly frustrating.

Your willingness to contribute your own hard earned money towards the surgeries demonstrates your eagerness to resolve the issue promptly.

I would like the opportunity to review your situation further and to investigate the circumstances that have led to a prolonged wait. I encourage you to contact our Consumer Liaison Service (phone: 6457 2867 or email: CLS@health.wa.gov.au) to provide your personal details, so that we are able to review and ensure an appropriate plan is in place.

I can assure you that Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Health Care Group is committed to providing patients with safe and timely care and I sincerely apologise for the delays you have experienced.

Warm regards,

Dr Jodi Graham
