"Joint Replacement not near where I now live"

About: Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospital Group

(as the patient),

I am on the Public wait list for replacement of my Osteo-arthitic Hips and knees but at Royal Perth Hospital as requested by the GP because of where I lived prior to September 2023).  However I understand I can not be changed to either Fiona Stanley or Fremantle hospitals which are both near where I live, apparently because of rivalry between hospitals, according to an Orthopaedic Registrar at FS Hospital.

I now live locally and use public transport and my new GP has requested which has been denied my transfer to either local hospital!

Dear encryptiongn94

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story via the Care Opinion Australia platform; I can appreciate your frustrations waiting for surgery. I would like to investigate this further to get a better understanding of your referral status and a possible explanation as to why your referrals have been declined.

I invite you to contact our Patient and Family Liaison Service on 08 6152 4013 during business hours or via email FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au to allow me to investigate this further.

Kind regards

Neil Doverty

Update posted by encryptiongn94 (the patient)

I could not contact Neil Doverty through either the phone number nor email address! Though I now awit for "an Officer" at FSH I presume to return my call!

Update posted by encryptiongn94 (the patient)

Early last month (April 2024) I posted on here about the lack and conflicting information following 2 GP referrals for me to have hip and knee replacements as Public patient at RPH and,or FSH. I got an email response to call to get more information. Eventually after several calls over the next few weeks I was told I am on the waiting list for a Hip Replacement at Fremantle Hospital and that the surgery would happen before 12months from the referral in late last year!

However, recently at Fremantle hospital both the physio I was seeing and the orthopaedic department receptionist said I need to been seen by a specialist first which may take up to 12 to 18months from the above referral date!

Meanwhile my mobility has decreased and my pain increased particularly in response to the HERO exercises I have done with the physio of the last 2 weeks, as I have Fibro myalgia as well as the osteoarthritis in my hips and knees.
