"My child's disgraceful visit to the ED!"

About: Bridgetown Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My child was bought in to the Bridgetown ED in severe pain with associated diarrhoea, extreme sweats and general malaise.

They were not give pain medication for nearly an hour and 45minute including nurse-initiated medications!

No one got them the heat pack that was requested to be given to them and they were left alone in a room hooked up to machines with chronic diarrhoea and no call bell!

I believe this is absolutely unacceptable!

No patient should ever be left without a call bell alone and in pain!

I understand it was a busy morning but basic nursing care should never be forgotten!!

Why was a phone order not gained for pain medication??

Why did my child have to wait in pain until a doctor arrived to be administered pain relief!

This should not happen in my opinion!

I have turned a blind eye on too many occasions about various incidents within this hospital over the years and I will not do this any more!!

And another thing; I believe staff should not be complaining or speaking negatively about other staff in front of patients.

So many things here that should not occur!

Dear delphinusfg95,

I have shared your experience with staff at Bridgetown Hospital General ward and the Emergency Department to give them an awareness of your experience and how it made you feel and again wish to express my sincerest of apologies.

Please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this situation further.

We have escalation procedures within the hospital that are designed to offer you advice and guidance if you feel you are placed in a situation in which you are not been heard or your concerns acted upon in a timely manner called Aishwarya's Care Call. If you are in any West Australian Hospital this process is the same, please ask staff to direct you to the information sheet to ensure concerns are addressed in a timely manner and the health and well-being of yourself or your family is not adversely affected.

Yours sincerely

Helen Stuart
