I presented to the Bunbury ED recently with suicidal ideation early afternoon. The Triage nurse stationed nearest the entrance talked to me in a room around the corner. I don't know how soundproof the door is, but this lady displayed compassion and treated me with dignity and I believe she needs to be commended. I waited for a few hours but a nurse took my blood pressure again and was also highly professional. (All the Triage nurses present were.) I hate crying and trying to relax in front of strangers in the waiting area but what else could be done?
When another room was available, the PLN Jennifer took me there and treated me with a high standard of care and I believe she also needs to be commended. (I don't know how soundproof the door was.)
I moved to country WA to improve my mental health but in my opinion, the staff and mental health patients have to suffer with what's here in the biggest city outside of Perth metro. We're a rich state apparently but I believe country WA is neglected by the higher ups in Perth. It took every bit of self control not to walk out of the ED in the over 3 hours of waiting. People's lives are at stake.
