From the moment I arrived in the Bentley Hospital car park with shady trees and the sounds of birds tweeting in the early morning sunshine, I felt that my experience there was going to be positive. I then noticed that most of the staff arriving at work were politely greeting each other and patients in the waiting room, and this suggested to me that the work culture is positive and conducive to respectful relationships between colleagues as well as consumers.
The nurses I saw in the Day Surgery Unit were efficient, caring and informative, treating each patient as an individual. They also assisted the student nurse on placement to practice skills in a positive environment. The Gastroenterologist and Anaethetist were also kind, efficient and respectful.
Having a colonoscopy is never a fun experience and, as an experienced Registered Nurse, I can sometimes be a harsh judge, but the care provided today was outstanding, including the hot cup of tea and fresh, tasty gluten-free meal provided before I was discharged.
I believe this positive experience is a testament to the individual staff working there today, but also to the leadership provided and the many staff who work behind the scenes to make Bentley hospital a great example of healthcare done right.
