"Routine surgery"

About: Kalgoorlie Health Campus / Surgical Ward

(as the patient),

I recently attended the Kalgoorlie Health Campus for a hysterectomy.

From the time I arrived at the day ward to check in, until the time I was discharged I felt well cared for and wanted to put into writing my appreciation of the hard work and dedication of the hospital staff to make my stay comfortable. Karen greeted me on Day Ward to admit me, she was polite and friendly and took me over to the surgical ward. The nurses were all polite and professional, Erin, Anna and Hayley were my main nurses who showed genuine care and compassion- they are all certainly in the right profession! The theatre staff were also kind- Jancy is a graduate nurse and her kindness and calm nature helped me feel at ease. Bosco the Anaesthetist was polite and knowledgeable, he was also mentoring a medical registrar to complete an intubation and he spoke respectfully and supportively to him also. My recovery was managed well, I experienced quite a lot of pain and the nursing staff were able to acknowledge and advocate for me to help manage it.

My most memorable and enjoyable interactions however came from a "little breath of fresh air" Annette who is a PCA, she was bright and bubbly, spoke kindly and was happy and energetic. Her presence on the ward was refreshing.

I wanted to take the time to thank all of the staff involved in my care during my time in hospital. All too often we hear the negative stories, so wanted to acknowledge the great work you are doing.
