"Logan House Experience"

About: Lives Lived Well - Logan House

(as a service user),

To future Logan house residents,

I am a grateful recovering addict and previous resident of Logan House.

I first came to Logan house on a parole order after a negative jail term. I thought I knew best and unfortunately within the week I arrived I was asked to leave due to events that occured in the rehab.

After leaving I continued my poor behaviour and attitude, once again surcoming to the vicious cycle of drugs and crime. After another two stints in a jail cell, I found myself back here on the drug court program, this time getting clean, positive and honest with myself in jail for roughly 5 and a half months.

I arrived nervous, anxious, worried and unsure of what to expect and was met with nothing but pure love, respect, acceptance and care from the Logan house staff. I ran along with this feeling of positivity and warmth, further engaging in the program from day dot.

This was soon noticed by my treatment facilitator, support networks, kitchen staff and also my fellow recovering addicts for which I am forever grateful for. Having a strong work ethic, open mind, attention to detail, willingness to adapt, desire to change and a loving and caring attitude, I believe are essential to thrive here.

Logan house has allowed me to further develop my leadership skills, educated me regarding my addiction and use of drugs/alcohol, accept & become aware of my emotions, discover my fears, get in touch with my thoughts, establish routine and productivity, help me connect with others & most importantly find out who I really am.

In saying this you only get out what you put in, and your time at Logan house is only a small part of the journey.

I believe it's absolutely imperative that you take the advice of staff, do what your asked of, follow the rules, engage in the program and actually work it. Recovery is all about learning and putting that into action on a day to day basis.

Onwards and upwards there are so many possibilities out there for us. Limits are just an illusion and based on my experience, if you come to Logan house with a good mindset, actually wanting to change you will find peace, happiness and serenity in your life.

It was a pleasure to have my message ready and just remember you are loved and are worth sobriety and happiness. Stop waiting for recovery and go and get it

Dear zebrahr73,

Thank you for sharing your experience for all the future residents at Logan! It's a lovely and heartfelt letter and will provide insight to new residents about how treatment can change lives. I should also congratulate you for re-admitting after your first brief stay. It shows your courage and persistence, and it paid off.

It's particularly great to read that you felt welcomed and respected by staff.

Your acknowledgement of the long journey ahead will benefit you in the long run. Take what you learnt and dig deep to remain abstinent. There may be days better than others, and you can always reach out to support workers to walk you through difficult times. Often, it takes more than one treatment type to keep you on track (eg: residential, counselling etc).

Congratulations again and thank you for posting to Care Opinion. It helps others understand what they might expect at Lives Lived Well.

Kind regards,

Lara
