"My treatment at the Hyperbaric unit"

About: Prince of Wales Hospital / DB1 - Hyperbaric Unit

(as the patient),

Since the beginning of the year I have been treated by the Hyperbaric Unit at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney NSW. The Unit was treating me for a long term ulcer, over 4 years, I had on the outside of my right ankle that would not heal. Prior I had been referred to other medical specialists who were unable to successfully treat the ulcer.

I was referred to the unit for Hyperbaric treatment, after being assessed the doctors determined I was not suitable for hyperbaric treatment, however it was recommended a four layered compression dressing be applied 24/7. The dressing was changed weekly by a community nurse in my home.

Earlier this month I was discharged by the Hyperbaric Unit as the ulcer is completely healed. The care & treatment I received from the doctors & nurses was outstanding they are certainly miracle workers whose dedication will change my life. Whilst it would be unfair to singularly thank any individuals I must make special mention of the nurse Halley who treated the ulcer at each visit she was amazing & so supportive with her treatment & encouraging words. I think the NSW Health system is very fortunate to have her working in the Hyperbaric unit. Based on my experience I am certain every patient she treats is treated in the same manner. I know from my working career in banking it is far easier to criticise staff than praise them for their inter action with customers. I will be forever thankful & grateful for the staff at the Hyperbaric Unit.
