"Hand infection that required surgery"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

After being referred by another hospital ( no hand specialist available? ) to Sydney Eye and Hand Hospital.

Within 10 minutes of arrival, I was triaged by the specialist team at Sydney Hospital.

Ended up needing surgery, lots of antibiotics. Before and after surgery. A two night stay ( that was unexpected- so I must of been sick ! )

I can’t speak highly enough of all the nursing team , surgeons. In general all the staff at the hospital.

My follow up care was just as professional experience with great knowledgeable staff.

My injury - suspected spider bite on the left hand dorsal.   That became an infected abscess effecting hand movement. Original oral antibiotics could not flatten the infection that had ramped up.

Dear julyxj44,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about our Hand Unit department staff. They are all exceptional healthcare professionals.

The staff pride themselves on providing high-quality care for every patient every time. It is lovely to hear that you had such a positive experience albeit a challenging one with a persistent infection. We hope your hand is now on the mend and I wish you all the best with your recovery.

Kind regards

Dr Pauline Rumma
