"Birthing my second daughter through the family birth centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

I received all antenatal care through the birth centre there next to KEMH. This has been my second time going through the FBC and both times I have been really happy with my experience there,  despite my births not going completely to plan. My midwife, Olivia, was absolutely lovely and beyond knowledgeable about all things pregnancy and childbirth. I felt very safe in her care and really appreciated the peaceful and reassuring energy she provided to me over the pregnancy and especially while I was in labour. Olivia and Sophie really listened to me, advocated for me and looked out for what was best for me and my baby. Towards the end of my labour i transferred to KEMH due to meconium in my waters and me requesting an epidural. Olivia and Sophie were quick to act on this and I felt so supported and not judged for requesting the epidural despite my initial hopes of birthing unmedicated.

I really cannot fault the care provided through the birth centre. It was a very positive experience for me and a beautiful setting to labour in, with the option to water birth especially.

Post natal care was really thorough and plenty of resources provided to me for beyond birth after being discharged from care of the FBC.

Thank you so much !

Dear muscabf94

Congratulations on the birth of your second daughter and thank you for sharing your story with us. I’m so pleased to read about the positive experiences you had through both of your pregnancies under the care of the Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS) Family Birth Centre (FBC).

It sounds like you had a truly supportive and positive experience at the Family Birth Centre (FBC), even when things didn’t go to plan during your labour. It’s wonderful to hear how Olivia and Sophie provided such compassionate and knowledgeable care, making you feel safe and supported throughout your pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

We are extremely proud of the level of kindness and compassion demonstrated by our staff. Our teams are always delighted to receive such warm recognition like yours, and we’ll be sure to let Olivia and Sophie know how much their care meant to you.

Warm regards

Delaney
