Care Opinion Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that facilitates transparent, independent and two-way communication via an online public platform. We allow consumers (patients, service users, clients, carers, families/carers) to share holistic stories (brief accounts) of their experiences with health, aged and social care service providers without reserve or the confines of survey boxes.

These stories are lived experiences that are being told in order to recognise the exceptional care that was received and/or to highlight the need for change.

Take a look at our brochure which highlights the impact on health, community and aged services.

How storytelling works in practice

Step 1. A person who has had a personal experience of care with an health, community or aged care provider submits their story to the Care Opinion site, via a handwritten leaflet or via the phone.

Step 2. Care Opinion moderates each story to ensure the anonymity of the storyteller and/or person receiving the care is maintained, staff are protected, and everyone remains safe through the two-way dialogue in the public domain according to their moderation principles.

Step 3. All stories that meet the moderation principles are linked to the service who provided the feedback and published on the Care Opinion website.

Step 4. The storyteller receives an automatic notification of the story's publication with a link to it and the service provider is notified that the story has been published and invited to post a response to it.

Step 5. If the service chooses to respond, their response is published on the Care Opinion website and the storyteller notified accordingly. Conversations can then continue via the platform or privately.
