Finding your way
Recently my parent was admitted via the Emergency Department to a ward. It was a very stressful time for our family. All the staff from the reception, nurses and even the lovely man cleaning the elevators were friendly and assisted us in finding our way around the hospital. The nursing staff kept the family updated on my parent's condition and plan and listened to the family about issues that might impact on their care - like their deafness and not being able to hear what doctors had told them - and followed up to make sure my parent understood. Some of the medical team willingly engaged with the family but some were more difficult to make contact with.
