Amazing maternity care

About: Osborne Park Hospital / Maternity care

I'd like to give some positive feedback to the maternity ward at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) and particularly to the midwife team on behalf of my wife and myself. My wife gave birth over a very busy period and we were very fortunate to have Ahlem present to deliver our baby. We hadn't planned to come to hospital so late into labour, but Ahlem recognised this immediately on our arrival and took us straight to a birthing suite.

Our birth plan was acknowledged at every stage and any deviations were communicated to us, something which did not happen for my wife's previous labour at another hospital. Our baby needed some help with breathing immediately after delivery, but we were given numerous opportunities to debrief this with ward midwife afterwards and felt at ease with their management and outcomes. We'd also like to give positive feedback to the other members of the midwife team that we met through my wife's pregnancy- Kay, Jo and Kim.

A suggestion we'd like to make would be for the midwife team to operate more like the midwife teams at another service we've been to - i.e. you contact the team during the antenatal period for concerns/issues or advice.

Our aftercare was fantastic too, we'd had support from Elaine (lactation consultant) and physio for laser therapy from Naomi and Rebecca.

Dear oriondj77

Thank you so much for your kind words and acknowledgement of a number of our staff. We have already shared your feedback with the staff who are really appreciative that you took the time to comment on the care provided by them.

We initiated a midwifery team model last year with one team and are committed to further roll-out as it has proven to be very successful.

Your feedback about applying the midwifery team model during the antenatal period reinforces the importance of continuity of care for our pregnant women and we intend to continue to promote and support this model of care.

Thank you once again for sharing your experiences of the midwifery team at Osborne Park Hospital.

I hope that you and your family are enjoying your new born baby.

Kind regards

Janet Zagari
