"Endometriosis"

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / Antenatal Clinic, Birth Suite, Maternal Fetal Assessment Unit, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit, Wards 3B, 3C, 3D, 3DO, Visiting Midwife Service

(as the patient),

I had a terrible (public) appointment with a specialist clinician. I felt they were very dismissive and uncaring. It seemed they were completely against me having an operation to remove the endo and thought my symptoms were caused by something else (despite confirmed significant endo in the same area). I recall they said things such as- I’m the age I am with a good quality of life, so I should be thankful for that, and I’ll never be painfree, I can get it down to a level 2/10 with pain medication so be happy with it.

I've been left feeling insignificant, upset and angry. I feel the situation is now hopeless and I will just need to live in pain with no quality of life.

Dear cafern74

I am so sorry to read that you felt your specialist was dismissive and uncaring. I would like to reassure you that our staff do take endometriosis very seriously, and work with our patients to “co-design” the type of care and treatment required and desired. If you have been left feeling insignificant, upset and angry then this tells me that the care you received was not patient centred and your opinions, thoughts and feelings were not listened to. I am very sorry this was your experience.

Peta, our Coordinator of Nursing and Midwifery, shares my view, and does not want you to remaining feeling as you are. Please can you contact Peta on 6152 2222 so that she can find out more about your situation, your appointment, and work with you so as you are not left feeling like your situation is hopeless.

We do care about you, as we do all of our patients, and will strive to provide you with the treatment and care you require.

Peta looks forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards,

Neil Doverty
