"Pregnancy and birth of my 3rd baby at the Family Birth Centre"

About: King Edward Memorial Hospital / Family Birth Centre

(as the patient),

My care throughout my pregnancy at the family birth Centre was outstanding. The level of care and time and consideration was what made It an easy choice for me to return to the FBC After having my 2nd baby there also.

Appointments were always on time and when they needed to be cancelled I was always informed ahead of time.

I always felt well looked after by my midwife Sophie who was happy to answer any and every question I had.

During my labour I was looked after by a backup midwife Claire who was exceptional. I had never met Claire before; however she went over and above to bring the birth centre experience from the FBC to KEMH where I was transferred to. She had the right balance with leaving me be during labour, whilst suggesting to change positions, walk around the room when the surges started to lessen.

I am forever grateful for her being so in tune with what I wanted and advocated for me when I couldn't, even though I had only just met her. I only incurred a first degree tear which was the best out of my 3 births thanks to Claire and the support she provided during my second stage of labour.

My post natal care with Hannah was so supportive and informative with breastfeeding advice, my bladder care and advice around what to look out for with our baby being born with meconium in waters.

The antenatal visits provided by the midwives to our home is incredible as I didnt need to leave the house, making a big difference to those early days and weeks

The Family Birth Centre is one of a kind and is an exceptional service to the women in Perth and surrounds.

Dear saturnpn76,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for providing such lovely feedback about your experiences with the King Edward Memorial Hospital’s Family Birth Centre (FBC).

I am pleased to hear that you felt so safe and supported by the FBC staff during your second and third pregnancies. When our patients make the choice to return during subsequent pregnancies, it lets us know we’re achieving our vision to deliver excellence in healthcare for women, infants, and their families.

It is great to hear that Sophie was always available to address any concerns you had throughout your pregnancy, and although it was necessary to transfer you to the main hospital for your birth, I’m so happy to hear that having Claire alongside you was reassuring and supportive during what must have been a frightening time. It is also great to hear that you received the same level of care and support from Hannah during the postnatal period and your recovery at home. Sophie, Claire and Hannah will be so happy to hear your story and know the positive impact they had during your pregnancy, birth, and post-natal period.

Once again, thank you for sharing your story.

Barbara Lourey

Nurse Midwife CoDirector
